Mozambique Wilderness Trails Taking a hike in the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park is one of the most rewarding wilderness trails experiences we discovered in Mozambique. This wilderness trail lasts only 4 days, so guests spend 3 nights out in the African Bush, no designated campsite, no fences and no other campers - this is the way to experience wilderness in its virgin form! There is a camp co-ordinator that sets up camp and breaks it down every morning leaving very little trace of where you slept the night before, this is touching nature gently! There is a guide who leads you on this wilderness trail which, really is following animal foot paths, there is no rule about which path to follow or how long you may linger at a water hole observing the beautiful birds. The idea is to explore the bush and find out more about the wildlife on the other side of the Lebombo mountain range in this uninhabited park that meets the KrugerNational Park on the horizon. The weather determines when you leave camp, in summer it gets too hot for you to walk past noon, so it is best to leave camp earlier, rest under a tree or in shade near the river, enjoy 40 winks a snack and then head out again in the afternoon arriving at your newly set-up camp about 3 hours later. This is true wilderness, with a bush shower and bush loo, so it is best to wash up whilst it is still light as the only form of light after sunset is that of a few paraffin lamps. In winter, trailists enjoy a full day of walking in the wild; leaving camp after breakfast and walking on average of between 12 and 15km a day. Hiking in the wilderness of Moçambique’s Parque Nacional do Limpopo, allows each person a special encounter with nature. On trail it is about looking at signs the animals have left, using your senses and getting up close and personal with creatures both great and small!
